Week 3:Elements Of Design

28 Apr

We learnt about Elements of design in week 3.

What is Elements of design?

– the language of visual art

– method of organization

There are 6 elements of design, which are :

1.line                           4.colour

2.shape                      5.texture

3.space                      6.value/tone

This is some research  i did that lecture asked.

1.Line

Picture1

-Line is the basic element that refers to the continuous movement of a point along a surface.

-Every line has length, thickness, and direction.

-There are curved, horizontal, vertical, diagonal, zigzag, wavy, parallel, dash, and dotted .
Types of  line

This is exercise i did in class
2.Shape
Picture7
.when a line crosses itself or intersects with other lines to enclose a space it creates a shape.
.geometric shapes : circles, squares, rectangles and triangles.
.organic shapes : leaf, seashells, flowers.

3.Space
Picture11
create an illusion of depth, using :
 – overlapping
 – diminishing scale
 – atmospheric perspective
 – vertical placement
 – warm and cool colors

– diagonals and linear perspective.

There are few kinds of space, which are:
1.overlapping space
Picture12
2.diminishing scale
Picture13
3.atmospheric perspective
Picture14
4.vertical placement
Picture15
5.linear perspective

6.postive / nagative space

4.Colour
Our visual nerves register color in terms of the attributes of color: the amount of green-or-red; the amount of blue-or-yellow; and the brightness.Color categories and physical specifications of color are also associated with objects, materials, light sources, etc., based on their physical properties such as light absorption, reflection, or emission spectra.

5.texture
Picture18
– the characteristics of a surface that are experienced through touch or vision
                                                                                                 Picture19
                                                                                                 Picture20

This is another texture exercise i did in class
6.values/tone
Picture22
– the appearance of lights and darks found in a work of art.
– contrast
                                                                                                        Picture23
                                                                                                               Picture24
                                                                                              Picture25
This is all the 6 elements of design that i have do on the research.
